If you haven’t watched last night AMAZING season finale of The Vampire Diaries I recommend waiting to read this article that was posted on MTV.com.

‘Diaries’ star tells MTV News about her character’s game-changing decision on Thursday night’s season finale.

Warning: spoilers ahead!

As the episode, titled “The Departed,” came to a close, a tear-filled Elena told Damon that while she cared for him, her one true love is his good-guy brother, Stefan.

“I understand why she made the decision,” Nina Dobrev told MTV News about her character Thursday night in New York. “I respect her decision, and I think, having seen the last three years, what’s happened in her life, everyone will also. They may not be happy, half the people will not be happy regardless, but they’ll get it, and it’s her decision at the end of the day.”

And, the drama didn’t end there: After Elena broke the news to Damon, she and her friend Matt drove off the same bridge her parents did years before, their car sinking into the river.

Much like that other time, Stefan plunges into the water to save her, except she sacrifices herself to save her pal. Cut to the very last second of the episode, where her dead body lies still while Stefan looks on, mourning her loss. But, nothing is what it seems, and her eyes open. Little did anyone know, she had vampire blood in her, courtesy of Dr. Meredith Fell, from a previous injury.

Dobrev said “it doesn’t matter” what she thinks Elena should have done, adding, “I have absolutely no say in who she chooses or how that all goes down. That’s a Julie Plec question.”

Well, Plec, the show’s executive producer, said that for Elena, life as a vampire is a distinct possibility. “The ending had been in the works for about two years,” she told Entertainment Weekly. “It felt like now was the time — when you’re left with no grownup, no adult supervision, no parent, no guardian — for Elena to experience the next evolution of her journey.”

Over the course of season three, Elena certainly faced a number of hardships, including the loss of her mentor, vampire hunter Alaric. “All the stuff that we did with having her get stronger over the course of the year, training and getting in touch with her physical self, and all the grief and all the emotion that she went through, all the compassion that she has for everybody, it will all play into next year and what kind of person and vampire she will actually be — if she should choose to see the transition through,” Plec explained.

So, will she transition? The executive producer noted, “There will be a discussion to be had about it at the beginning, but the road we’re going down is pretty balls out.”

Michael Trevino talks about tonight’s finale and about Tyler & Caroline.

Is Tyler (Michael Trevino) leaving Mystic Falls…again?!

It’s no secret that The Vampire Diaries isn’t afraid to send off its beloved characters, none more so than Tyler, the hybrid who seems to take an annual retreat away from Mystic Falls each season. But will Tyler be making his next exit from town a more permanent one? And will he be bringing girlfriend Caroline (Candice Accola) away with him?

“As far as Caroline and Tyler, it’s a life-changing decision because they have been outed and everyone knows about them. You would think that Tyler would take a page out of the book he always goes to, which is maybe we should just leave town for a little bit!” Trevino teases. “I think it’s them together this time, now that Klaus is completely gone, do they stay in Mystic Falls and ride it our or do they leave town for a while or do they leave town and not come back?” Mystic Falls without Caroline and Tyler? We shudder at the thought!

Tonight is the season finale of The Vampire Diaries and I know we are all wondering what is going to happen and who Elena will choose. Well Nina Dobrev is not telling … heck she didn’t even tell her own mother but she did give us some insights thanks to her interview with Mandi Bierly from EW.com.

If you think you’re going to get Nina Dobrev to tell you who Elena chooses — Stefan (Paul Wesley) or Damon (Ian Somerhalder) — in tonight’s season finale of The Vampire Diaries, think again: She hasn’t even told her mother. “She lives between Canada and Europe, so I don’t get to see my mom very much. Her way to kind of be with me is watching the show and Googling me wherever I am,” Dobrev says, with a laugh. “So on many occasions, she calls and asks for spoilers and I’ll always say, ‘Nope! Nope! I’m not telling you anything.’ She always gets a little bit upset at the time, but then ultimately, she’s happy that I didn’t ruin it for her. It’s like the way I don’t want to know what happens in an episode before I read it. You don’t want to get to the punch line before you hear the joke.”

Of course, the Vampire Diaries season finales, while sure to have some nice one-liners, aren’t typically remembered for their guffaws. It’s more like murder, mayhem, and tears (which is exactly what EP Julie Plec told us to expect this year). Season 3?s twist-filled final hour will be gut wrenching, Dobrev says. ”Especially at the end, there’s a huge twist that even we didn’t expect when we were reading it. And it actually changed. We started shooting the episode, and they changed it before we shot [the ending] to something completely different,” she says. “It’s sad. When I was watching parts of it in ADR the other day, I almost started crying. The people who are loyal fans and live and breathe with the characters are gonna really feel it at the end of this episode.”

As those devoted viewers know, Klaus (Joseph Morgan) — who insists he’s at the start of our heroes’ vampire bloodline, which means they can’t kill him or they, too, will die — is now lying desiccated in a coffin on his way to being dropped into the Atlantic Ocean by the Salvatore Brothers. Klaus had tried to drain Elena of all her blood, which he needs to make his hybrid army, because if she dies, otherwise immortal Alaric (Matt Davis) will die, too. Everyone wants Alaric dead now that he’s determined to stake all four remaining Originals so all vampires will die. We also know from the promo that at least two of Klaus’ three remaining siblings, Rebekah (Claire Holt) and Elijah (Daniel Gillies), are back in town. “The whole season up until this point, it’s been the Originals versus the regular vampires and the humans. And now it’s all coming to a head. Somebody — if not multiple people — has to die in order to save others.

It’s a war to survive,” Dobrev says. “Elijah represents the Originals and he’s gonna try to make sure none of the Originals die, whereas the humans are trying to make sure the vampires they’ve befriended and grown to love don’t die. So everyone’s just trying to look out for themselves and continue the bloodline.” That could explain why the hospital — where we’ll find Elena after she hit her head during last week’s Klaus scuffle and later fell unconscious — won’t be the safest place for her. Presumably, the Originals will want her dead, and Alaric will want to keep her with him so he can keep her alive (until he needs to kill her to commit suicide, of course). One Salvatore brother will have to return immediately to protect her, and the other will continue with Operation Dump Klaus, which apparently doesn’t go according to plan since we’ve seen a clip of Damon taking Bonnie to Klaus’ coffin in a storage facility.

While we debate what’s going to happen in the present, we’ll also get to learn more about the past through flashbacks to Elena’s life before the Wickery Bridge car accident that killed her parents and Stefan saved her from drowning. Dobrev won’t say whether we’ll actually see Stefan’s rescue, but she offers this about those flashbacks, which feature Aunt Jenna (Sara Canning) as well as Elena’s parents, Grayson (Jason MacDonald) and Miranda Gilbert (Erin Beute): “They really show you the relationship they had, and it makes the end of the episode and the whole car accident so much more tragic, and visceral, and sad,” she says. “When you see the back story, you see how happy they were. You see how much her life has changed, and how so much can change in one second.” She also says that’s the same cheerleading outfit she wore in season 1: “But it’s funny, it definitely didn’t fit the same two years later,” she adds, laughing, “and I didn’t feel as secure in it. Two years ago, I felt like such a baby, and just like my character, I feel like I’ve become more of a woman, and I’ve filled out in places where I wasn’t endowed before.”

“The whole theme of the episode is about time and change, and making decisions and letting go based on the maturity that you gain from experiences good or bad,” Dobrev says. So yes, it all comes back to Elena’s decision. “As we approach the end of the episode,” Plec says, “we’ll put Elena in that situation where there’s only one brother that she can see in a very important moment, and she needs to decide which one of those brothers it is.” How does Dobrev think the show’s notoriously passionate and vocal fans will react? “I think half of them are sitting at the edge of their seats hoping and praying that she’ll choose Stefan, and the other half is doing the same for Damon. But I think that ultimately, they’re going to respect her decision and understand where she’s coming from and why she makes it.”

Julie Plec introduces this doozy of a season finale that will be airing tomorrow night and confirms something that will happen in the episode. Plus we get a little glimpse of a scene with Elena & Aunt Jenna.

My favorite Carina Adly MacKenzie from Zap2It did this great article on who Elena should choose in tomorrow night’s finale. She points out why she should and should not choose each of the Salvatore Brothers.

Okay, “Vampire Diaries” fans… in two short days we’ll find out who Elena (Nina Dobrev) chooses to be with — at least for now. While we can promise that she does choose between the brothers, there’s no telling, of course, how long the choice will “stick.” This is television, and we may be having this same conversation in a year’s time.

For now, though, our heroine is faced with the ultimate dilemma: a super-hot vampire who loves her, or a super-hot vampire who loves her. Don’t you just hate when that happens?

Personally, here at Zap2it, we’re rooting for Matt (Zach Roerig), who could provide a nice quiet life free of blood-drinking and brother drama, but we’re pretty sure Elena has other ideas. When it comes down to it, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) are both good for Elena and bad for Elena. Let’s take a look.

Why Elena should choose Damon: It’s hard to deny that Damon has been a source of emotional support for Elena through what was arguably her most traumatic year yet. Last summer, when Stefan left town, Damon was there for her to rely on while she angsted over Stefan’s absence. He was arguably her best friend this year, despite a few setbacks. The passion between them is undeniable (in addition to that motel kiss… even the chaste hand-holding beforehand was hot).

There’s also the curiosity factor — we, as an audience, haven’t had the chance to see Damon and Elena as a couple, and we’re interested to see how it plays out. Elena’s main reason for not choosing Damon is his tendency to lash out and vamp out when things don’t go his way, but he’s kept his killer urges under control these days. In fact, she still doesn’t know that when she thought he was behaving badly at the Original Ball, he was actually saving Matt from a bone-crushing end. He even saved Bonnie’s life last week, despite believing she screwed up their plan to let Alaric go. He’s changing!

Right now, Damon and Elena can relate to each other more than ever, because they’re both grieving the loss of “real” Alaric. If there’s anyone she can talk to about that tragedy, it’s him. Plus, after their building tension and her obvious reciprocation of his feelings this season, would it even be believable for her to set that aside and ignore it? Haven’t we seen enough of the Elena-is-in-denial story for a lifetime?

Why Elena should choose Stefan: It’s been a tough year, but now that Stefan has once again emerged from his Ripper fog, he’s proven himself capable of being the stand-up man Elena fell in love with in Season 1. We’ve got to give him credit for not giving her an ultimatum — in fact, his lack of questions about her trip to Denver with Damon shows a certain nobility and a respect for her decisions.

As Klaus made clear in “The Reckoning,” the connection between Stefan and Elena is rare and powerful. He did fight compulsion for her, which means something in their supernatural world. There’s also an argument to be made for the fact that Stefan hasn’t so much as considered another woman (as anything other than a light snack) since he met Elena. She’s still a teenager with normal human jealousies, so that carries considerable weight.

Stefan also impresses us with his compassion not only for Elena, but for the people who are important to her. He doesn’t make fun of Jeremy or disregard the safety of Elena’s friends, like Tyler. At the Decade Dance, he offered Bonnie a truly genuine apology for her unwilling involvement in their vampire drama. He’s also shown regard for Caroline’s pain, particularly last season. Elena has always taken her friends’ opinions to heart, so their support for Stefan over Damon could be a powerful motivator.

Carina also gives a rundown why she should choose Damon or Stefan so to read the rest of the article go here
